  • 2 cups Milk Low-fat or non-dairy milk can be used.
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar Maple syrup or honey can be used.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon Nutmeg can be used instead.
  • 0.5 cup Raisins/Currants Dried cranberries or chocolate chips can be used.
  • 0.25 cup Melted Butter
Optional Garnish
  • Powdered Sugar Dust for an elegant touch.

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a greased baking dish, about 9x13 inches.
  2. Cut the stale bread into cubes and pour the melted butter over the bread. Toss to coat and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, stirring gently to saturate. Rest for another 10 minutes.
  5. Fold in the raisins or currants to the mixture, ensuring even distribution.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the greased baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool for about 10 minutes, optionally sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
