  • 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 8 ounces sliced smoked sausage choose turkey or pork
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil can substitute with avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter substitute with ghee for dairy-free
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning adjust to taste
  • 1 medium onion or shallots for milder taste
  • 1/2 medium red bell pepper or yellow/orange peppers as a substitute
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper omit or use more red pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth vegetable broth for vegetarian option
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free
  • 3 cloves minced garlic fresh garlic is preferable

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add shrimp and smoked sausage to the skillet, sprinkle Cajun seasoning, and sauté for about 4-5 minutes until shrimp is pink and sausage is golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat to medium, melt butter in the same skillet, then add diced onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring to prevent burning.
  5. Add chicken broth and remaining Cajun seasoning. Bring to simmer over medium heat for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Pour in heavy whipping cream and cayenne pepper if desired. Stir and simmer for 4-5 minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. Return shrimp and sausage to skillet, gently folding into the sauce. Cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and additional cayenne if preferred.
