Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Cut your stale loaf of bread into 1-inch cubes or slices and place into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Whisk together the dairy-free milk, brown sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and black salt in a separate bowl until combined.
  3. Grease the casserole dish and scatter the cubed bread in the dish. Pour the custard mixture over the top.
  4. Allow the bread to soak in the custard mixture for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.
  5. Combine the optional topping ingredients until crumbly and sprinkle over the soaked bread.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
