Step-by-Step Instructions

  3. In a saucepan, heat water and lard until melted.
  4. Create a well in the plain flour; pour in the lard mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth (1-2 minutes).
  6. Divide the dough; roll out the larger piece to line pie tins.
  7. Spoon the meat mixture into pastry shells, pressing down gently.
  8. Roll out the remaining dough for lids; cover pies and crimp edges.
  9. Pierce small holes in lids, brush with beaten egg.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
  11. Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
